How to Live Till 100 Years
Step 1
Take an active life, both mentally and physically. You should not be obsessed about health, but you need to do some exercises. Walking, golf, swimming - anything is welcomed. Use a program of stretching to maintain flexibility and lift weights to prevent osteoporosis.
Step 2
Keep yourself at an ideal weight. If you are overweight you will limit the chances of exceeding the age of 100 years. Drink moderately and do not smoke at all.Numerous studies have shown that married people live longer than singles.
Step 3
Eliminate stress that is not necessary in your life because it leads to a shorter life. If you find a satisfying job that you like that will help to prolong your life. If you are retired do something that will give meaning to your life.
Create better links with friends and loved ones. This may be more difficult than to live 100 years, but it will be very helpful if you manage it. Live simply.
Stay away from boring and depressed people. Even 100 years is little time to waste. There are many fun things you need to do.

Do we really use 10% of brain?
We have heard the saying from many that we use only 10% of our brain or some might go to the extent saying we use only 2% and more over they add that if we could never use our 100%. Some also say Albert Einstein itself used only 20% and bla and bla...
So, We took their taunt or advise as truth and believed it. Even though their claim was not supported by any research or Fact.
But now a new research has proved them wrong. Below is the article published in Economic Times on 8th December, 2012

Destruction of Karmas
While travelling on the path of spiritual progress, a person destroys all eight types of his karmas in the following sequence:
First Mohaniya (Delusion), then
Jnana varaniya (Knowledge),
Darasna varaniya (Vision), and
Antaraya (Natural Qualities) all three together.
At this time, he attains keval_jnan and he is known as Arihant, which is also known as Tirthankara, Jina, Arhat, Kevali, or Nirgantha. Lastly the remaining four karmas namely
Vedniya (Pleasure and pain of the body),
Nama (Body),
Gotra (Social standing), and
Ayu (Life span) are destroyed.
At this time, he attains total liberation and he is known as Siddha.
The first four karmas are called Ghati karmas because they obscure the natural qualities of the soul. The last four karmas are known as Aghati karmas because they do not affect the qualities of the soul, but they are associated to the physical body of the soul. Once a person destroys all his Ghati karmas, he will definitely destroy all of his Aghati karmas before his death. No fall back can occur after the destruction of Ghati karmas.

Karma in Jainism
There are many types of karma. However they are broadly classified into the following eight categories:
The first four karmas are called Ghati
karmas because they obscure the natural qualities of the soul. The last
four karmas are known as Aghati karmas because they do not affect the
qualities of the soul, but they are associated to the physical body of
the soul. - Mohniya karma - It generates delusion in the soul in regard to its own true nature, and makes it identify itself with other external substances.
- Jnana varaniya karma - It covers the soul's power of perfect knowledge.
- Darasna varaniya karma It covers the soul's power of perfect visions.
- Antaraya karma - It obstructs the natural quality or energy of the soul such as charity and will power. This prevents the soul from attaining liberation. It also prevents a living being from doing something good and enjoyable.
- Vedniya karma - It obscures the blissful nature of the soul, and thereby produces pleasure and pain.
- Nama karma - It obscures the non corporeal existence of the soul, and produces the body with its limitations, qualities, faculties, etc.
- Gotra karma - It obscures the soul's characteristics of equanimity, and determines the family, social standing, and personality.
- Ayu karma - It determines the span of life in one birth, thus obscuring soul's nature of eternal existence.
While traveling on the path of spiritual progress, a person destroys all eight types of his karmas.

Significance of OM
OM represents the wholeness of the universe and the eternal sound of Brahman (the universal soul) that permeates it. All Hindu mantras generally begin and often also end with OM. It has been frequently mentioned in the Vedas and offer scriptures of Hinduism.
Below is a PDF file which further highlights the significance of OM.
The syllable OM, can also be spelled as AUM. According to one interpretation:

The syllable OM, can also be spelled as AUM. According to one interpretation:
- “A” stands for creation,
- “U” stands for preservation, and
- “M” indicates destruction or dissolution.
- The chanting of Om drives away all worldly thoughts and removes distraction and infuses new vigour in the body.
- When you feel depressed, chant Om fifty times and you will be filled with new vigour and strength. The chanting of Om is a powerful tonic. When you chant Om, you feel you are the pure, all pervading light and consciousness.
- Those who chant Om will have a powerful, sweet voice. Whenever you take a stroll, you can chant Om. You can also sing Om in a beautiful way. The rythmic pronunciation of Om makes the mind serene and pointed, and infuses the spiritual qualifications which ensure self-realization.
- Those who do meditation of Om daily will get tremendous power. They will have luster in their eyes and faces.

Unity in nepal - Jain Temple
I recently visited Nepal, being Jain we all search for Jain temples in our travel path. So did I.
I was amazed by the unity shown by the Jain's in Nepal at this visit to Jain Temple. The temple is both of "Svetambar" and "Digambar". This is the first temple which I know of which is symbol of unity in these two panths.
The temple was of two floors one for each panths.

Why there are 24 Tirthankaras only?
The answer to this question can be perhaps available from the 87th stramza of "Yashstilakchulikc" scripture written by Acharya Somdev Suri.
He observes:
There are indefinite number of Graha (Planet) – Nakshatra – Taras (Stars) (Heavenly elements in the sky). But their numbers has been shown to be limited by the rule of nature. In the present era of Utsarpini time-span, there are 24 times only when these heavenly elements are positioned in the best location. This is a certainty.
Therefore there are only 24 Tirthankaras only not a one less not a one more.

Ancientness of Jainism
Jainism is considered to be an ancient religion with a history of many centuries. However the written record of ancient Indian people is very scares. Therefore, we have to depend more on secondary sources such as traditional lore, religious literature, archeological works and anthropological research.
Recent archeological research in Afghanistan, Pakistan and North - West India provide a much clearer picture of early Jain history. During this course of historical past, Jainism has gone through several changes and reforms and has also been divided into several sects.
The traditions and philosophy that Jains follow to-day or even those Mahavir followed in his own day, are very ancient. In fact, Jains claim that Jainism is an ETERNAL religious. The Kāl Chakrā (The Time Circle) devised by Jainism try to prove that Jainism is an eternal religion. There have been several innumerable such cycles throughout eternal time. Many western and eastern historians have attempted studying Jainism and they could realised that the Jainism has deep roots in history.

Comming Soon - TJYG Listings
Based on the idea by Adarsh Madrecha for listing all the businesses of Jain Brothers Residing in thane, on our website, we are soon going to launch "TJYG Listings" as a service to business man which shall serve both the purpose of Listing as well as advertisement for them.
The advantage for TJYG shall be that business men will have to give donation to TJYG for getting listed on our website. So, this shall be win win situation for both. The donation received from these listing shall go in the common fund of TJYG which shall be used for Charity Purposes.

Crossing 2000 Mark
From starting this Blog on 22nd March. 2012, this blog has crossed 2000 page-views. While Writing this post the page-views are now 2027..
Visitors on Thane Jain Yuva Group as on 8th Oct, 2012 |
This is a great achievement for a small blog like this, that in just 6 months we have crossed 2000 mark considering the fact that this blog is actively read by only members(72) of this Group.
On occasion of this achievement I have created a new web address for this website. "ThaneJain.co.cc" This address is shorter than the existing "ThaneJain.blogspot.com". Members had suggested to shorten the URL and now it is. Just adding 'co.cc' after Thane Jain.
This blog is not only read by Indians, but also have visitors from around the globe.

United pratikraman organised
Objective of the group being to unite all the jains living in thane and thereby abolishing panth system, we all have kept pratikaman for all the panth together at nirmala niketan hall.
For thoes who don't know what pratikraman is
"Pratikraman (literally Sanskrit "introspection"), is a process of repentance of sins (prayaschit) during which Jains
repent for their wrongdoings during their daily life, and remind
themselves to refrain from doing so again. Devout Jains often do
Pratikraman at least twice a day. In same one practices self-observation
and emphasize the necessity of self-effort to move the soul towards
divine consciousness and liberation"
For those who don't know what panth is,
Panth is division of followers of Mahavir Swami. When the Jain religion started it was one united system. Then in 360 BC (Around 160 years after Mahavir's Nirvana) there was a split into two Sects - Digambar and Svetambar then in 1474 AD Svetambar splited to form two panths - Sthankvasi and Mandirmargi (Also still called Svetambar). Then again in 1760 AD some saints splited from Sthankvasi to form a new panth called "Terapanth". So now exists 3 panths
> Murtipujak (Mandirmargi/Svetambar)
> Sthankvasi (Barapanthi)
> Terapanth
So after knowing what all this panth is all about, we (The Thane Jain Yuva Group) attempted to unite ALL, by having a common pratikraman at nirmala Niketan hall at Vartak Nagar. This event was attended by families of all the panths. Thus marking a success of having a united pratikraman.

Meet on Sunday - 29 th April, 2012
No of Members Present -28
This time also meeting was started with Navkar Jap.
Took feedback of the vow of touching the feet of Elder people. Almost all had inculcated this as new habit in themselves and their younger brothers and sisters also started the same.
Then played lots of games this time - Musical Chair, GK questions about Jainism, Fugdi, etc. It was decided in this meeting that instead of having this type of get-together every Sunday, we shall have it on monthly basis on Sundays. This will increase the participation of members, even though this will make all miss the Group very much.
As the majority of members were on their vacation tour to their home town, the no. of members present decreased significantly, this also led to postponing of accounts laying down before the group.
